Clerk, Alexander
1650 – 1737
One of the original signatories to the Deed of Corporation of the Edinburgh School of St Luke, 1729 a precursor of the Royal Scottish Academy. He may be related to the Hugh Clerk (junior) and James Clerk who are amongst the fellow signatories. He was the younger brother of Sir John Clerk of Pennicuick and was a portrait painter, which he studied under John Alexander and Imperiali, before moving to London where he studied under Pond and Hysing in 1731.
