Cooper (senior), Richard

1705 – 1764

Settled in Edinburgh and is thus regarded as the father of Scottish engraving, in which business his son Richard Cooper jnr was also engaged. His portrait by Jeremiah Davidson was gifted to the Royal Scottish Academy by Professor David Laing LLD HRSA FSA(Scot) in 1859 and was one of those paintings transferred by the RSA to the National Galleries of Scotland under the 1910 Agreement.
