Mackenzie, Alexander Marshall, RSA
1848 – 1933
Alexander Marshall Mackenzie was the son of the architect Thomas Mackenzie. He was educated in Aberdeen and Edinburgh and trained under his father's partner Dr James Matthews and with David Bryce in Edinburgh. In 1870 he set up in practice in Elgin and in 1877 he moved to Aberdeen and went into partnership with Dr James Matthews until 1893 as "Matthews & Mackenzie." From 1904 he entered into partnership with his son Alexander George Robertson Mackenzie as "A Marshall Mackenzie & Son." He was involved in many notable projects in Aberdeen and the Aberdeenshire are inculding the Church if Crathie, Balmoral and the rebuilding of Marischal College and Greyfriars church, Aberdeen. He exhibited at the RSA from 1870 until 1933, he became an Associate Member of the RSA in 1893 and an Academician in 1918.
