Orphoot, Burnett Napier Henderson, RSA

1880 – 1964

The son of Thomas Henderson Orphoot, Advocate Sheriff Substitute of Peeblesshire, and his wife Edith Carmichael Smythe Burnett or Orphoot, Burnett Orphoot was trained at the University of Edinburgh and at in Paris at the Academy des Beaux Arts. He was part of the architectural practice Orphoot, Whiting & Bryce, later Orphoot, Whiting & Lindsay. He specialised in domestic architecture but also worked on a number of public projects such as the Peebles War Memorial and the restoration of Haddington Episcopal Church. He exhibited at the RSA from 1914 until 1956. He became an Associate Member of the RSA in 1934 and an Academician in 1943.
