He taught printmaking as both a day and an evening course at ECA with William Wilson RSA amongst his most noted students. Exhibited almost annually at the RSA Annual Exhibitions from 1909 until1976. He was elected an Associate of the RSA in 1937 and an Academician in 1946. Thomson was afforded a major posthumous exhibition at the Scottish Gallery to mark his centenary in 1985. In 2024 Dr Helen Scott curated the first major exhibition in a public gallery devoted to Thomson's life and work, drawing on over 100 works across all media in which he had worked. A fully illustrated catalogue, 'Adam Bruce Thomson, The Quiet Path,' written by Dr Scott was published by Sansom & Company to accompany the exhibition.
