Reeves, Philip Thomas Langford, RSA PPRSW RGI RE
1931 – 2017
The son of a Cheltenham printer, Philip Reeves studied at Cheltenham School of Art from 1947 - 1949 and at the Royal College of Art from 1951 to 1954. He moved to Glasgow in 1954 to teach printmaking at Glasgow School of Art and proceeded to found the Edinburgh Printmakers in 1967 and then the Glasgow Print Studio in 1972. In 1970 he was appointed Head of Printmaking at Glasgow School of Art. In addition to his career as a printmaker, Philip Reeves is also known for his collage paintings. His work tends to explore concepts of the landscape, particularly of the north east of Scotland and the shore. He has exhibited at the RSA Annual Exhibitions from 1955. He became an Associate of the RSA in 1971 and an Academician in 1976.
