Crosbie, William, RSA
1915 – 1999
Born in China, returned to Glasgow in 1926 and studied at Glasgow School of Art in 1932. Due to a travelling scholarship travelled abroad in 1935 and studied at the Ecole des Beaux Arts in Paris, then at the studio of Fernand Leger. Also took drawing lessons from Aristide Maillol and studied art history at la Sorbonne University. Spent a period with archaeological expedition in Egypt copying friezes on temple walls. After the Second World War, was involved in mural painting and book illustrations. He exhibited at the RSA Annual Exhibitions from 1937 until 1998. He became an Associate Member in 1953 and an Academician in 1974.
