Renton, Stuart, RSA

1929 – 2006

Stuart Renton studied at Edinburgh College of Art from 1946 and was articled to Sir John Burnet Tait and Lorne. In 1949 he continued to study at the College as an Andrew Grant scholar gaining his Diploma in 1952. He then won a travelling scholarship that enabled him to study in North Africa and the Arctic Circle until 1953. In 1955 he joined Alan Reiach at his practice and in 1965 he became a founding partner in Reiach and Hall and from 1981 until his retirement in 1991 he was the senior partner. He lectured in architecture at Edinburgh College of Art from 1977 until 1980. Stuart Renton was awarded the MBE in 1973 he became an Associate Member of the RSA in 1983 and an Academician in 1997.
