Hardie, Charles Martin, RSA

1858 – 1916

Charles Martin Hardie initially worked in his father's carpentry business before proceeding to study at the Trutsees Academy in circa 1876, encouraged by a family connection with John Pettie. He then studied at the RSA Life School and in 1879 won the RSA Stuart Prize and then in 1880 he won the Keith Prize. He produced historical genre pieces and landscapes exhibiting at the RSA from 1877 until 1916. He became an Associate Member of the RSA in 1886 and an Academician in 1895.
