Fraser, Alexander [Sandy], RSA
1940 – 2020
Alexander Fraser trained at Gray's School of Art from 1958 to 1962 under Robert Henderson Blyth, RSA. In 1963 he gained his teaching certificate from Aberdeen College of Education. He worked for a time in Aberdeen as an art teacher from 1964 until 1966 when he was appointed as a lecturer in Drawing & Painting at Gray's School of Art. In 1964 he had won the RSA Latimer Award and in 1969 he won the Guthrie Award. He was a visiting artist at Hospitalfield House in 1979 and in 1980 he travelled to Egypt as part of the RSA Sir William Gillies Scholarship. He became the Head of Drawing and Painting at Gray's School of Art in 1987 and held this post until his retirement in 1997. He has exhibited at the RSA from 1964 becoming an Associate Member in 1971 and an Academician in 1989. His wife Helen is also an artist.
