Scott, David, RSA
1806 – 1849
Born in Edinburgh, the son of the engraver Robert Scott and the older brother of William Bell Scott, HRSA. David Scott attended the High School in Edinburgh and then proceeded to study at the Trustees Academy in 1821 studying there until circa 1823. He then spent a period engraving under his father and in 1827 he was involved in the creation of the 'Edinburgh Life Academy Association'. In 1832 he travelled to Italy visiting Venice and Rome in particular, he returned to Edinburgh in 1834. He continued to produce heroic and biblical figure subjects and to provide illustrations to various publications most notably the "Ancient Mariner" and "Pilgrim's Progress". In 1843 he contributed frescos to the new Houses of Parliament building. He exhibited at the RSA from 1829 until 1848. He became an RSA in 1829 under the Hope Cockburn Award
