Whiston, Peter Rice, RSA

1912 – 1999

Educated at Holy Cross Academy, Leith, Peter Whiston proceeded to study architecture at Edinburgh College of Art whilst being articled to the City Architect's Office. He began his working life in the Edinburgh firm of Dick Peddie, McKay & Jamieson. After serving in the Second World War, he became the chief architect of Scottish Special Housing before setting up in private practice specialising in church architecture - particularly Catholic churches. He also lectured in architecture at Edinburgh College of Art from 1950 - 1969 and was the Director of the first postgraduate course in Environmental Conservation at Heriott - Watt University from 1969 until his retirement in 1977. Peter Whiston exhibited at the RSA from 1950 until 1990, he became an Associate Member of the RSA in 1962 and an Academician in 1977
