Kininmonth, William Hardie, Sir, PPRSA RSA
1904 – 1988
Educated at George Watson's School and then studied architecture at Edinburgh College of Art from 1924 to 1929 and at the Slade. Whilst in London he worked for Sir Edward Lutyens. From 1932 he was in partnership with Basil Spence in Edinburgh, he became a partner in the practice of Balfour Paul in 1934 and he later became the Senior Partner in the firm of Rowan Anderson, Kininmonth & Paul. He was responsible for many buildings in Edinburgh such as Adam House and the Pollock Halls of Residence for the University of Edinburgh. He was chairman of the Princes Street Panel and was part of the Royal Fine Art Commission for Scotland. He exhibited at the RSA Annual Exhibitions from1948 until 1976. He became an Associate Member of the RSA in 1949 and an Academcian in 1956. From 1969 until 1973 he held the office of fifteenth President of the RSA.
