Buchan, Dennis, RSA
1937 – 2023
Studied at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art, Dundee between 1954-58 and then at Hospitalfield in 1959. Following National Service he became a part time lecturer at Duncan of Jordanstone between 1962 and 1965 and taught there full time until 1994 when he resigned to concentrate on painting. He won the RSA Keith Prize in 1962 and the Latimer Award in 1963, as well as the William J MacAulay Prize atthe RSA AX in 1988. He began to exhibit at the RSA Annual Exhibitions in 1959 and his initial interiors and landscapes have become increasingly abstract over the years. Amongst his most famous collectors was the American film actor Vincent Price. Buchan became an Associate Member of the RSA in 1975 and an Academician in 1991.
