Brownlee, Fraser

b. 1989

A student of Painting at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art, he was awarded a 2013 John Kinross Travel Scholarship and undertook his travels with fellow John Kinross Scholars Thomas Woodcock and Johnny Lyons. He is the elder of the Brownlee Brothers alongside sibling Calum who is two years his junior. The Brownlee Brothers were named as the inaugural winners of the £14,000 Fleming-Wyfold Bursary, at the opening ceremony of the prestigious Royal Scottish Academy (RSA) New Contemporaries exhibition in Edinburgh in February 2014. The award is made by the Fleming-Wyfold Foundation, custodians of the established Fleming Collection in London. The Brownlees also won the RSA Sir William Gillies Bequest Award, worth £2,000, for their attention-grabbing work exploring the themes of Brotherhood, Cultism, Dundee and Youth, which was first exhibited at the DJCAD Degree Show in May 2013.
