Alison, David, RSA

1881 – 1955

Initially trained in a lithographic studio then studied at Glasgow School of Art and RSA Life School followed by period in Paris and Spain. Became member of teaching staff at Edinburgh College of Art in 1913 and became Head the School of Drawing and Painting circa 1916 retiring in 1944. In addition to family portraits also produced various commissions. He exhibited at the RSA Annual Exhibitions from 1906 until 1953 and was elected an Associate Member of the Royal Scottish Academy in 1916 and became an Academician in 1922. He was also one of the original members of the Society of Eight when it was formed in 1912.
