Convery, Francis, RSA

Born in Paisley Convery initially worked as an apprentice mechanical engineer. He then trained at Edinburgh College of Art (1979 - 1983) and also carried out postgraduate studies at the college (1983-84) before being appointed Part-Time Lecturer there, a position he held between 1984-86. He was recipient of an RSA John Kinross Travel Scholarship in 1983. He was appointed Lecturer in Drawing and Painting at Gray's School of Art, Aberdeen in 1987 and became Head of Painting there in 1997, holding the post until 2011. He became an Associate Member of the RSA in 1994 and a full Academician in 2005, becoming the first former John Kinross Scholar to achieve this recognition.
