Mackechnie, John, RSA

b. 1949

John Mackechnie trained in drawing and painting at Glasgow School of Art and then undertook postgraduate printmaking studies at the Faculty of Art & Design at Brighton Polytechnic. He then worked as a printmaking assistant at Brighton and then at the University of Northumbria before becoming a studio printer at Glasgow Print Studio. He has been the director of Glasgow Print Studio since 1983. Mackechnie became an Associate of the RSA in 2003 and an Academician in 2005. His work focuses on both the urban and natural environment and his photographic prints have also featured the imagery of American cities.
