A student under Hugh Adam Crawford RSA and W O Hutchison PPRSA at Glasgow School of Art where her contemporaries included Joan Eardley RSA, Margot Sandeman and Ian Hamilton Finlay HRSA. As a student she won the RSA Guthrie Prize and her portrait aged 20 by Crawford is in the collections of the NGS She married the photographer George Oliver and their archive is held by Glasgow School of Art https://gsaarchives.net/catalogue/index.php/dc-066 In 1951 she became a freelance art critic for the [Glasgow] Herald and in the 1960s was appointed Art and Theatre Correspondent (Scotland) for the Manchester Guardian a role she held for over twenty years. A founder member of Glasgow's Third Eye Centre she also provided support and encouragement to Richard Demarco HRSA. She curated numerous exhibitions including those for bet Low RSA, Jack Knox RSA and Hugh Adam Crawford RSA and wrote the book marking the centenary of the Society of Scottish Artists.
