Watercolour artist and photographer, commissioned by Queen Victoria in 1865 to produce 'The Highlanders of Scotland'. His brother MacNeil MacLeay was a landscape painter. He was one of the founding Associate members of the RSA in 1826 and became an RSA in 1829
