Nicholson, William, RSA

1781 – 1844

Foundation member of the RSA in 1826 and first secretary of the RSA until 1830. The first non-Scottish-born and first English-born Office-bearer of the Royal Scottish Academy.

He was a co-partner with his brother George and David Ramsay Hay in the firm Nicholson & Hay, Ornamental and House Painters, which was dissolved by mutual consent on 1829-01-01, after which the former partners continued in the same line of business independently; Hay at 37 George Street, and the \Nicholsons at the former premises 51 George St under the name G Nicholson & Co [Edinburgh Evening Courant, 1829-01-01]
