Cowie, Bel
1943 – 1983
Cowie had studied printed textiles under Malcolm McCoig at Gray's in Aberdeen (1960-64) before undertaking further study at the Ceramische Fachschule, Berne, Switzerland. Subsequently she was one of thirteen staff, alongside Barbara Rae RA RSA, Fred Bushe RSA and Frank Pottinger RSA, in the art department at Aberdeen College of Education. Although she worked in a variety of media including oils and watercolour, she is best remembered for her sensitive decorative screenprints. She served as a Director of Peacock Printmakers in Aberdeen and was active in the Society of Scottish Artists. She died at the age of just 39 years.
