Stanciu, Oana
b. 1988
A graduate in Fine Art at the National University of Arts Bucharest, gaining a BA (2008-11) and an MA (2011-2013), and now based in Edinburgh. Stanciu has had work accepted for inclusion in the RSA Annual (Open) Exhibitions since 2015 and was one of the invited artists in the 2021 Annual. She has exhibited widely in Scotland as well as in England and Internationally. Amongst her many awards and residencies, Stanciu has received the following RSA Awards; RSA Morton Award for Lens-Based Media, 2021 Royal Scottish Academy Residencies for Scotland, 2019 Royal Scottish Academy Meyer Oppenheim Prize - for a work in any medium by an artist under 35, 2017 Royal Scottish Academy Latimer Award - for meritorious work by artists under 35, 2016. Writing of her practise, Stanciu has stated; "My recent work involves photography and moving image in which I use myself as a model, experimenting with my body and everyday objects to improvise scenes and create unnatural or subtly distorted images.
