Foggie, David Simpson, RSA

1878 – 1948

Educated at Dundee High School and then travelled to Antwerp to study art. Worked as an artist for two years in Dundee before returning again to Antwerp and studying in Paris, Florence and Holland along with George Dutch Davidson. From 1904 Foggie lived at Lucklaw Hill near Luchars in Fife retaining his studio in Dundee.. Moved to Edinburgh in 1919 living near Duncan and Lintott. Taught Life Drawing at Edinburgh College of Art from 1920 until 1939. He worked in oil and watercolour and is best known for his strong portraits. He exhibited at the RSA Annual Exhibitions from 1905 until 1948. He became an Associate Member of the RSA in 1923 and an Academician in 1930.
