He is recorded at the 1901 Census living at 31 Joppa, Portobello with his parents and elder brother David, a 22 year old mercantile clerk. George is recorded as aged 19, born Edinburgh (his parents were born in Berwickshire and his brother in Roxburghshire) and an Animal and Landscape Artist. Exhibited a single work at the RSA AX in 1895. By the 1901 Census he was 29 and married to the 36 year old English born Mary, and the father of a 3 year old son William B[?rydon] and living at Portobello High Street where he was a cycle agent. His death certificate records him as a retired Motor Mechanic.
