Richards, John Deacon, RSA

1931 – 2003

John Richards trained at the Architectural Association in London from 1949. He went on to become part of the Robert Matthews, Johnson-Marshall and Partners practice. He was the chairman of the Edinburgh partnership from 1977 to 1986 and of the whole partnership from 1983 to 1986 (referred to as John Richards Associates from circa 1990). He was president of the RIAS from 1983-84 and also taught at the Mackintosh School of Architecture in Glasgow and was Govenor of Edinburgh School of Art in the early 1980's. In 1978 he was awarded the CBE. He exhibited at the RSA Annual Exhibitions from 1970 until 2001. He became an Associate Member of the RSA in 1974 and an Academician in 1989.
