Armour, William, RSA

1903 – 1979

Born in Paisley, the son of a designer and educated at Glasgow School of Art. Became member of teaching staff at Glasgow School of Art in 1947 and became Head of Drawing and Painting in 1955. In addition to executing portraits in oil, watercolours and pastels, he also painted landscapes and was a wood engraver. He married the artist Mary Armour RSA in 1927. He exhibited at the RSA Annual Exhibitions from 1929 until 1978. He became an Associate of the RSA in 1958 and became an Academician in 1966.
