Cameron, Gordon Stewart, RSA

1916 – 1994

Educated at Robert Gordon's College in Aberdeen and then at Gray' s School of Art where he studied under James Cowie and then Robert Sivell. The RSA Carnegie travelling scholarship took him to Holland and France. Between 1939 and 1954 he was involved in the execution of a series of mural paintings for the University of Aberdeen's Student Union. At this time he had a studio in Aberdeen and became part of a coterie of artist's including Alberto Morrocco. In 1946 he was involved in the illustration of an anatomy book by Professor Lockhart and in 1947 along with Alberto Morrocco, he was part of the 47 group of exhibitors. In 1952 he went to Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art as a lecturer in the School of Painting retiring in 1981. He exhibited at the Royal Scottish Academy Annual Exhibitions from 1942 until 1993. he became an Associate Member of the RSA in 1958 and an Academician in 1971. His wife was the artist Ellen Malcolm ,RSA (1923 - 2002)
