McGlashan, Archibald Alexander, RSA

1888 – 1980

Archibald McGlashan studied at Glasgow School of Art under Fra Newberry and Maurice Greiffenhagen where he became friends with Robert Sivell and James Cowie. He won the Haldane travelling scholarship and visited Europe in 1912. He was a member of the Society of Eight and a founder member of the Glasgow Society of Painters and Sculptors and the President of Glasgow Art Club from 1959 until 1961. He is particularly recognised for his paintings of children and babies. McGlashan exhibited at the RSA Annual Exhibitions from 1919 until 1980. He became an Associate Member of the RSA in 1935 and a Royal Scottish Academician in 1939.
