Fraser (jnr), Alexander, RSA

1828 – 1899

The son of an amateur artist, Fraser studied at the Trustees Academy and was friends with Sir William Fettes Douglas with whom he used to go on sketching expeditions. Later he sketched in Cadzow Forest with Samuel Bough RSA and from 1862 to 1866 lived at Barncluith on the outskirts of Cadzow Forest. Very early in his career he specialised in landscape painting and was one of the first Scottish artists to paint en plein air. He was a member of the Edinburgh Angling Club. Fraser exhibited at the RSA from 1846 to 1899. He became an Associate Member of the RSA in 1858 and an Academician in 1862.
