Adam, John

1820 – 1897

After a rudimentary education in his native Arbroath, Adam moved to Edinburgh to pursue a career as an engraver, and remained there the rest of his life. His first major work came from W&R Chambers and he was also in demand by the managers of the Edinburgh Antiquarian Museum to execute drawings and engravings of archaeological and historical relics in their collection. He executed the illustrations for Around the Round O, edited by George Hay FSA(Scot) and published in Arbroath by Thomas Buncle as a de-luxe edition in 1883, with a cheaper second edition appearing in 1885. He died in Edinburgh.
