Crawford, Hugh Adam, RSA

1898 – 1982

Trained at Glasgow School of Art under Greiffenhagen graduating in 1923. He was runner up in the Prix de Rome competition in 1925. Taught at Glasgow School of Art in the thirties and was Head of Department of Drawing and Painting 1936-48, his students including Robert MacBryde and Robert Colquhoun, Joan Eardley and Cordelia McIntyre Patrick (later Oliver).Held the post of Head of Gray's School of Art from 1948-54 and eventually moved to Duncan of Jordanstone in Dundee holding the position of Principal from 1954-64.He exhibited at the RSA Annual Exhibitions from 1931-1980. He became an Associate Member in 1938 and an Academician in 1956.
