Alexander, Robert Love, RSA

1840 – 1923

No formal training as an artist but began to exhibit at the Royal Scottish Academy Annual exhibitions in 1868 and continued to exhibit untl 1923. Best known for his animal paintings featuring dogs and horses. Visited Tangiers in 1887 with his son the artist Edwin Alexander, RSA and Joseph Crawhall and then worked increasingly in water colour. Elected an Associate of the Royal Scottish Academy in 1878 and became an Academician in 1888.
