Alexander, Edwin John, RSA

1870 – 1926

The only son of the animal painter Robert Alexander RSA, studied at the Royal Scottish Academy Life School and in Paris with Robert Burns ARSA. Visited Tangier in 1887-88 and Egypt between 1892 and 1896. Settled in Edinburgh in 1904. Associated with watercolours of North African scenes and animals. He exhibited at the RSA Annual Exhibitions from 1887 until 1926. Became an Associate of the Royal Scottish Academy in 1902 and an Academician in 1918.
