Abercromby, John Brown
1843 – 1929
An Edinburgh based figure, portrait and landscape painter and the father of the landscapist Robert Clarence Abercromby (1884-1961). He was enrolled at the RSA Life School 1864-70 taking the Keith Prize and sharing with John Wallace the prize for the Best Painting both in 1869-70. In 1868-69 he and Wallace shared the 2nd prize for the best drawing from the life. J B Abercromby was an exhibitor at the RSA AX from 1865-1928 with the exception only of 1872, 1901, 1902, 1906, 1924-27 inc.
