Lawrence, Eileen, RSA

b. 1946

Eileen Lawrence studied at Edinburgh College of Art from 1963 to 68 (Post Graduate Scholarship 1968). after which she lived and worked in London from 1969 to 72. She then lived in Wuppertal, Germany from 1972 to 73 before visiting America where she became interested in Indian ceremonial fetishes. She returned to Edinburgh in 1973. She held her first solo show in Edinburgh at the 57 Gallery in 1969, another in 1974 and in Stirling the following year. Lawrence has exhibited in Britain, Europe & America. The Exhibition Eileen Lawrence Paintings 1977-92 was a large survey exhibition of her work organised by the Usher Gallery, Lincoln & The Fruitmarket Gallery, Edinburgh. The Mead Gallery Warwick organised ISTHMUS Eileen Lawrence Paintings 1993-98.She specialises in the delicate portrayal of feathers and similar totemic objects, generally in watercolour and ink. Eileen Lawrence has exhibited at the RSA from 1974 and became and Associate Member in 1997 and a full Academician in 2010 upon her Diploma Work being accepted by the RSA Assembly of Academicians. She is married to Glen Onwin RSA.
