Busby, John, RSA

1928 – 2015

Born in Bradford, Busby studied at Leeds School of Art before heading to Edinburgh College of Art where he studied from 1952 to 1954. Travelling Scholarship enabled him to visit France and Italy. Taught Drawing & Painting at Edinburgh College of Art from 1956-88. President SSA 1976-79 and founder member Society of Wildlife Artists. Commissioned work includes a church mural - St. Columba by the Castle, Edinburgh and specialised in depicting birds and as a result illustrated a number of natural history books. Elected ARSA in 1987 and RSA in 2005. He was honoured by his native city with a major Retrospective exhibition at Cartwright Hall Art Gallery there in 1999.
