1610 – 1652

A French-born painter who spent time in Italy but is grouped with the Dutch School. Primarily a landscapist influnced by the light of Claude, his best known painting is in fact of a distressed swan. He was a friend of Rembrandt who etched his portrait and had a crippled hand which earned him the nickname of little crab.
